This past weekend you were playing in the park and out of the corner of my eye, I could see a boy smiling and talking to you. I walked over and asked the little boy if everything was okay and he asked me about you. He said, “I asked him how old he is and he doesn’t talk.” Now, I know you know how old you are and you should have said, “I am eleven.” But you didn’t say anything. I showed the boy that you are able to talk and when I asked you how old you are, you said out loud, “Eleven”. The boy then said to me, “I think he is creepy and he acts like he is two years old instead of eleven.” Dillon, this broke my heart for you. I know what the boy meant and that he feels uncomfortable with your behaviors, but still….. it broke my heart.
Later in the day, one of your therapists, Brittany, came over and she looked at you and your behaviors as something that she misses being around. And, she was just with you a couple days ago! She looks at you with love, compassion, and wonder.
I thank God that He sends people like her into our lives. People that can look at you the way He does, which helps me deal with the people that look at you the way the world does.
