Congregation reaches out to its community through church service
Last November, St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Niles, Illinois, began holding “Worship at the Cross” (WATC) services. WATC services are simplified worship for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The church’s last service was held on January 25. Sixteen adults with special needs, 10 caregivers and 20 congregation members attended. A time for fellowship followed the worship service. Pastor Nathan Cordes, from St. Matthew’s commented, “This is really an uplifting way to worship.”
St. Matthew’s will hold its next WATC service on February 23, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. The church is located at 9081 N. Maryland Street. For more information about St. Matthew’s services, call (847) 827-4360 or e-mail KnowJesusBetter@StMatthews.ws.
