Renville, MN—The Jesus Cares Ministries (JCM) group at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Renville, Minnesota, enjoys every chance they have to get together. Their cook-out on June 20 was another chance to hang out. Everyone brought a dish to pass, and Pastor Rick Tuttle grilled the burgers.
In addition to their summer fun, this group meets twice every month for Bible classes at St. John’s in Renville. Afterwards, they enjoy the snacks they bring and visit for a while. Visiting over snacks was planned to be a one-time event, but was so enjoyed by the group it quickly became a part of their meetings.
Julie Luetke, JCM Representative, says, “This group studies the Bible together and treasures the fellowship they have. Finding Christian friends is often difficult and thanks to their JCM Bible class, these people have become close. Most importantly, studying God’s Word together makes friends for eternity.”
You can see evidence of their friendship in their actions. For instance, one JCM participant started working mowing lawns after someone suggested going into business for himself. Joey then hired a friend from JCM looking for work.
Another time, 3 of the members happened to see some new friends from JCM at a community event, so they went to help their friends and staff getting out of the van and entering the building.
Many of the JCM members have known each other long before Bible classes began, and their friendships run deep. Some meet for coffee and to go fishing. One married couple opened their home to another friend from JCM when he suddenly found himself living alone.
An evangelism opportunity
Originally, 2 of the members of St. John’s JCM attended the JCM Bible class in Olivia, Minnesota. However, due to a variety of reasons, the trip was sometimes too much. The pastor at St. John’s saw a ministry opportunity to serve people who did not feel comfortable attending Bible classes currently offered.
Now, between the members of St. John’s and the city of Renville, the group has 11 regular attendees. What makes this number even more impressive is the fact there is only one small group home in Renville that brings 2 residents. Opportunities to reach out to the community and share God’s Word are everywhere!
