Curriculum Webinar Shares Teaching Tools

Posted on Wed, Sep 15, 2010

Fifteen Jesus Cares Ministries (JCM) volunteer teachers and JCM team members from Texas to Wisconsin sat in front of their computers in the comfort of their homes on a Monday night at 6:30 and participated in the first webinar presented by JCM. The topic was 9 Effective Ways to Teach Dear Christian Friend (DCF). A webinar, as the name implies, is a seminar provided through the web.

Jim Esmeier, Administrator of Resources and Education, shared ideas to make using the JCM flagship curriculum, Dear Christian Friend, more effective. His presentation used PowerPoint slides which were visible on each person’s computer screen, to demonstrate items in the teacher’s guide that were designed to enhance this unique teaching material.

Participants were able to type in questions using a chat box that were then answered after each section was presented. This kept things moving along quickly yet made sure each person’s questions were answered.

“I love this method of meeting and learning,” said one attendee, while another shared, “This could lead into a once a month chat line to talk about lessons learned.”

“I’m really excited about all we can accomplish using this method of training,” said Jim Esmeier. “Looking to the future we wish to do presentations on autism spectrum disorders and in-depth coverage of specific teaching techniques.” Suggestions for topics are welcome.
