BELLE PLAINE – (Dec. 19) During the week of Dec. 11, Jesus Cares Ministries (JCM) made history by beginning three new programs. JCM has more than 100 programs in 15 different states around the country. JCM assists churches and congregations in reaching out to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families and communities. Typical JCM programs meet on a monthly basis and offer a simplified worship service or bible study. JCM has been sharing God’s Word with people who have disabilities as a ministry of The Lutheran Home Association since 1998.
“It was an exciting week for JCM to have three new programs starting. God is blessing us with opportunities to reach more individuals," said Pastor Joel Gaertner, National Director of JCM. "More than eight million people with special needs in our country don’t have a church home or don’t feel welcome in church. We are changing that."
New programs include:
- Crown of Life Lutheran Church in West St. Paul, Minn.
- Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Novi, Mich.
- John’s Lutheran Church in Vacaville, Calif. Partnership with Travis Air Force Base.
“We are excited to get started and have already met people who we hope to serve down the road,” explained Pastor Christopher Hope at St. John’s in Vacaville, Calif.
