Praise the Lord, all you nations. Worship him, every race of people. For his mercy overwhelms us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord. (Psalm 117)
This Psalm is the shortest Psalm and the shortest chapter in the Bible. The Apostle Paul quotes this psalm in Romans 15:11, as proof that the salvation of all nations was not an after-thought.
This was God’s plan from before the beginning. We see God’s love for us in the lavish creation he has made for us. His mercy for us is overwhelming. The world is part of that overwhelming love.
Beyond the flood stage, when we think of how the Father planned to save us and then did by sending his Son, Jesus, as our brother. This also points to the Lord’s faithfulness. He didn’t have to save us. He could have forsaken his rebellious creation. Instead Jesus came to restore us as God’s children.
The Hebrew word translated as faithfulness could also be translated as “truth.” The Lord’s truth does endure forever. That truth declares the victory won. We indeed have reason to “Praise the LORD!”
Let us Pray: Lord, thank you for your many blessings. We thank you for the flood stage of mercy and faithfulness that your abiding Word proclaims. Enable us always to praise you. Lord, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
