To raise awareness about Alzheimer’s and dementia, The Lutheran Home: Belle Plaine campus hosted the third annual “Stepping Forward for Dementia” walk on Saturday, Aug. 3.
Pastor Patrick Feldhus, Chaplain at Hope Residence, began the event with a short speech and prayer. Not soon after, with water bottles in hand, attendees began the two mile walk. Signs along the route shared facts and statistics related to dementia.
The event would not be a success without the help of our volunteers from several community organizations including Belle Plaine Royalty, Belle Plaine Dementia Awareness Alliance, Trinity Lutheran School, Belle Plaine Cross Country Team and Redeemer Lutheran Church. Volunteers pointed walkers in the right direction, cheered walkers and pushed residents in wheelchairs along the route.
Post walk activities included live music, face painting, a balloon artist and ice cream treats.
Event sponsors included Belle Plaine Lions Club, Belle Plaine Vets Club, Corner Stone State Bank, Johan's Bar and Grill, Kristin Werner Therapy, Milestone Auto Glass, Natural Fitness and State Bank of Belle Plaine. Special thanks to Reinhart Food Service for donating the after walk treats.
